Book swap container at Wynyard Quarter, Auckland NZ | Travel

I came across the 'Book Swap' (refurbished container vans) at Wynyard Quarter on one of my city walks around Auckland CBD. As a book lover &  avid reader I thought this was a fabulous idea. It's in a central location and overlooks the water. I wish we had a place like this in Sydney CBD.

Recipe | Easy Bruschetta

Here's an easy and delicious recipe for bruschetta. I make this as a snack or as an entrée to pasta dishes. Adjust the ingredients to your taste. Enjoy and let me know how you go with this recipe or share your bruschetta recipe with us =)

INGREDIENTS

  • Thick slice bread (Ask your baker for the best type to use for bruschetta)
  • Basil Leaves (Some people prefer to roughly tear them, I prefer to cut them up with scissors)
  • Red Onion
  • Minced Garlic (Optional)
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Parmesan Cheese (Optional)
METHOD
  1. Dice onion and tomatoes and set aside.
  2. (Optional) Add minced garlic to onion and tomatoes.
  3. Tear/Chop/Cut basil leaves and add to the onions, tomatoes and garlic mix.
  4. Add olive oil, salt and pepper to your taste.
  5. Stir ingredients together.
  6. To serve: Spoon desired amount on top of toasted/grilled bread.
TIPS

  • Place shaved parmesan on top for extra flavour.
  • Infuse garlic with olive oil and brush on to bread prior to grilling or baking the bread.
  • You can make and refrigerate the topping 30 mins before you need it, but I recommend placing the topping on top of the bread only before you serve it to avoid a soggy base.

Review: Her Fashion Box June 2013

Hello lovelies. I'm currently in Auckland New Zealand. If you haven't already, follow me on Twitter and Instagram for instant updates.

Before I left Sydney I took some pictures of things I wanted to blog about while I was away. A day or so before my flight I collected my June 2013 Her Fashion Box from the post office. As I mentioned last time, the bright pink box is really something. The fun and fresh use of colour really adds excitement to what's inside the box.

This month they advertised a much better box and considering that I was not too impressed with the contents of the May box, I honestly was not expecting much, so I was surprised and delighted to be wrong when I opened the June box and LOVED it!. Without further ado here are the lovely contents:

(Top) The brightly coloured postal box
(Bottom) The sleek and sturdy packaging box
Her Fashion Box: June 2013

Her Fashion Magazine: June 2013 Issue.
Note from the HFB team, featured blogger and product info.

A Thank You card and gift for filling out a survey for HFB.
When I opened the box, the HFB team included a free gift for completing one of their surveys. I thought this was a really nice and personalized touch. It's also a great incentive for customers to fill out surveys.

1. A retro style Hallmark card.

2. Dr. Lewinns Skin Perfect & Sensitive Cleansing Milk (Both Travel Size)
I haven't tried anything from the Dr. Lewinns skin care range so I'm looking forward to trialing these.

3. Tan coloured pencil belt with gold accents. $34.95

4. Cobalt Blue wrap bracelet with gold accents. $24.95

5. Grey Base Scarf with Red Buckled Belt Print. $24.95
My favourite out of everything in this month's box.
I am already wearing it and it is perfect for Auckland fickle weather.

6. Redkin Control Addict 28 70ml $9.95
A backstage favourite at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Shows.

7. Revitanail Conditioning Remover Wipes. $5.95
I love remover wipes as they're so easy and mess free. They're also great for travelling.

So there you have it - The contents of the HFB June 2013. Again I was really impressed with this month's box. I kind of wish I hadn't un-subscribed. This is definitely not going to be the last time HFB is mentioned on this blog. As the monthly fee is a little high (specially for a uni student) I might re-subscribe the month before my birthday as a special treat to myself.

What did you guys think of this month's box? Are you currently subscribed to HFB or use any of the products here? Please let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Take Care of Yourself,
Sunshine xo

Makeup Monday | Black Smokey Eye Makeup

Hello lovelies, last week one of my pretty besties agreed to feature on my blog again. Last year I did a smokey golden eye makeup look on her (Golden Smokey Eyes | Makeup with Amanda). This time we tried a black smokey eye makeup look.

Face
Foundation was applied after I had prepped her skin with Clinique's dramatically different moisturising lotion. Amanda has a naturally gorgeous (and very enviable) complexion so only a light layer of foundation was needed. I used Chanel's Mat Lumiere in 42 Petale and used a foundation brush. I then applied concealer under her eyes using a using a concealer brush and then gently blended it in with my ring finger. The concealer I used was Essence's Stay Natural Concealer in 04 Soft Honey. To set the foundation and concealer, Chanel's Vitalumiere Eclat in B30 Beige Sable using a large powder brush.

Eyeshadow

I applied NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in 601 Black Bean over the entire lower lid and blended it upwards past the eyelids crease and just below the brow bone using a fluffy dome eyeshadow brush. Because the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil is quite a creamy formula, I applied black eye shadow over it so the colour does not slide. I used Lancôme's Color Design in It List and blended it just below her natural brow bone. To highlight the brow bone I used a matte eyeshadow from Clinique in French Vanilla. I then applied Naked Cosmetics pigment in #HE-05 on the center of the eyelid. Using a vibrant shade of purple over the black eyeshadow makes this smokey eye colour "pop".

Eyeliner
Using an angled eyeshadow brush I applied Laura Mercier's Caviar Eyeliner in Chestnut on Amanda's waterline. Following  her natural eye shape, Rimmel's Glam Eyes Profesional Liquid Liner was applied with an angled eyeliner brush. The liner was slightly flicked at the end.

Eyebrows
I filled in Amanda's eyebrows using Benefit's Browzing's in dark.

Waiting for the lash glue to dry
Eyelashes
Bourjois Paris's Volume Glamour: Max Definition black mascarra was applied to Amanda's natural lashes. False eyelashes bought from ebay was applied just above her natural eyelashes using Ardell's false eyelash glue. More Mascarra was applied once the lash glue was dried.

Lips
I lined Amanda's lips using Essence's Lipliner in 04 Honey Bun. Using a lip brush I applied Burberry's Lip Cover Nude Cashmere No 26.

I hope you enjoyed this post and many thanks again to my beautiful buddy Amanda for agreeing to be my model.

Take care of yourself,
Sunshine xo

Be inspired by new stationary | Lifestyle Post

Even though we're in the era of tablets and smartphones I still prefer to use good ol' pen and paper to jot down notes or plan my day. Maybe it's the muso in me, but there is something very therapeutic about putting pen to paper & I feel like my thoughts flow so much better. As a lover of all things pretty I can not resist cute stationary - specially ones on sale. There was a sale on notebooks at TYPO so I picked up 4 x A5 notebooks for $10 (normally $4.95 AUD each), a retro cassette tape style correction tape dispenser for $6.95 AUD each & 2 x pens for $2.95 AUD each.
